September 30 – October 5 is Homecoming week at Illinois State University. This year the University is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Alumni Association. The week will be filled with activities for students, alumni, faculty, and staff. Join fellow Redbirds for the homecoming parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 5. The parade will step off at the corner of College Avenue and University Street. After the parade, enjoy tailgating in the parking lot of the newly renovated Hancock Stadium prior to the 2 p.m football game against Western Illinois University.
Other homecoming-related activities include the “Give the Red, Spread the Red Blood Drive,” which will be ongoing in the Bowling and Billard Center activities room from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m on Monday, September 30.
Redbird Rumble team competitions will be held Tuesday night starting at 7 p.m. at Hancock Stadium.
The fall musical “Spring Awakening” opens Tuesday evening with the first curtain rising at 7:30 p.m. at the Center for Performing Arts. The musical will run through Saturday October 5. Tickets are available by calling (309) 438-2535 or through Ticketmaster
Wednesday President Flanagan will host the Faculty/Staff Appreciation Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Brown Ballroom in the Bone Student Center. No reservation is required.
The Homecoming Carnival will also take place Wednesday October 2 between 7 and 11 p.m. Students are welcome to come out to the Bone Student Center and enjoy free food, games and entertainment.
Friday’s schedule will include numerous activities, including the Alumni Luncheon starting at noon in the Brown Ballroom of the Bone Student Center. There will be a Hot Dog eating contest will be held on the quad from 5 to 6 p.m. The department of Psychology will be hosting its Alumni Day Awards Ceremony and Dinner with Awards from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Room 551 of Degarmo Hall with the reception to follow at Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano on Veteran’s Ave; the cost is $30 with a cash bar. The Bonfire and Royalty Crowning will start at 7 p.m. outside the North Entrance of Redbird Arena.
Saturday will feature the Town and Gown 5k stepping off at 8 a.m. from the Student Fitness Center, following the 5k run.
